Well, the book, Age Your Way, is out there and available to everyone! We had a wonderful launch with over 200 people in attendance at Book People, generated interest in the aging planning process, and now the crusade is in your hands.

Debbie Pearson, author of Age Your WaySee how relaxed I look? Now it’s up to you to move the passion to plan forward.

Can you do it? I sure hope so. But, don’t be surprised to find resistance. Why? Because Age Your Way asks people to plan for aging – oh no!!

Maybe ignoring it or not making eye contact with aging will make it go away. Maybe there’s another alternative. The only alternative I know of is death. Not so great.

I invite you to weigh in. Post your bright ideas on Facebook. Have any of you seen someone eager to plan for their aging years? If so, I’m all ears. Because this is where the real challenge begins. It’s why I wrote the first book; to provide examples, paint real-life pictures, and promote the passion for planning.

Resistance to planning erupts from so many sources: Concern over making a mistake, refusal to look at what the future holds, and absolute fear. Those are realities.

For elderly family members, cognitive limitation may be a factor. When someone is at Stage II or Stage III (see chapter two in Age Your Way), an advocate is needed or their plan won’t happen. And with no plan, who will deal with the crisis? Could that be you?

So, let’s start working on motivation. The incentive to take charge, make aging your own individual plan, your way of exercising control. Because, without a plan, your control slips from your hands to someone else’s. And, that person may be a stranger. Heaven forbid.

It’s time to look at both yourself and your family members. Your resistance (those in Stage I), can be from perceived lack of time. Understandable. But lame. How much time do you spend on texting, watching TV, reading a dozen versions of the same news story? Everyone can carve out time for priorities. And you have a little time to set the stage.

The second book, the workbook, Blueprint to Age Your way, is scheduled for release in the first quarter of 2017. Therefore, you have a few months to carry the conversation forward and carve out your own time to plan.

Make planning a priority. Commit to devoting time for documenting the needed details in the Blueprint. Make it a 2017 resolution for yourself and those you love. Keep the topic visible – make eye contact – and make it happen.
